Responsible Coaching Movement

All Backyard Basketball Academy coaches are proud to be a part of The Responsible Coaching Movement (RCM). The RCM is a call to action for sport organizations, parents, and coaches to enact responsible coaching across Canada — on and off the field. Established by the Coaching Association of Canada and the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, the RCM invites all coaches and sport organizations to learn and apply consistent coaching principles. It includes three distinct pillars, each serving to create a sport environment that is Safe, Smart and Secure; The Rule of Two, Background Screening & Ethics Training.

Diversity, Equality & Inclusion Statement

Backyard Basketball celebrates equity, diversity, and inclusiveness. We embrace these pillars of excellence as crucial to the healthy people and healthy communities that we serve. We believe that our core values are strengthened when all members have voice and are encouraged to contribute. Every member of humanity has a contribution to make to the whole and it is our duty to encourage and promote that contribution.

Our values are realized through fostering a culture of open-mindedness, compassion, and inclusiveness among our organization and its participants. We actively work to build a community whose members have diverse cultures, backgrounds, and life experience. We are committed to providing effective leadership in the development, coordination, implementation and assessment of programs and services to promote diversity and understanding of our differences. We honour freedom of expression, ideals of citizenry, and civility of discourse as fundamental to personal, professional, and organizational growth.

We understand and are called to promote social justice and diversity in all organizational activities; address issues related, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, culture, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, ability, national origin, veteran status, social economic class, religion, and professional status.
